U.S. Department of State – Energy Management
AEM provides engineering and software support for the State Department's initiative to comply with the requirements established by the Energy Policy Act of 1992. Since the onset of this contract, AEM has surveyed, analyzed, identified, and prepared recommended improvements for the operation of an over one-million-square-foot building area, resulting in $750,000 in annual savings and nearly $15,000,000 in facility life cycle cost savings. Tasks AEM performs include:
- Assistance with the development of web-enabled technology to be used by facility managers throughout nearly 300 countries who need access to current energy use and reduction information relevant to their locale or other posts worldwide. This support also includes the development of analytical tools used to assist these individuals in managing their fiscal resources based on availability of current technology, status of global resources, and activities of other facilities with similar concerns and needs.
- Screening of all feasible opportunities to reduce energy and operating costs with each property owned and leased by the State Department.
- Preparation of all calculations, documentation to support final recommendations including life cycle cost savings, and net present value comparisons for prioritization of available funding.
- Creation and maintenance of an information database to evaluate and track the progress in meeting the 30 percent reduction goals established.
