John Shake has worked for more than 20 years in education technology leadership roles, including Director of Information Systems for the Illinois State Board of Education. At AEM, John develops technical solutions to support data systems and data management efforts at the state and federal levels, such as Common Education Data Standards (CEDS), Generate, and State Longitudinal Data Systems (SLDS).
As the Illinois SLDS Grant Director, John led teams to build the first statewide district-focused data dashboard, known as Ed360. He led the development of the state pre-K through grade 12 data warehouse that delivers metrics to the Illinois Report Card. His work in data visualizations led to the Illinois State Board of Education’s first business intelligence team using Microsoft Power BI. John also led the statewide initiative to secure student data by implementing the district single sign on project, which enables district access to student, school, district and state data. With each of these efforts, John has engaged educators to develop quality solutions that meet educational needs.
John has served on the Governor’s Education and Workforce Data Task Force in Illinois and the Illinois Longitudinal Data System Board. He co-chaired the Illinois State Board of Education Data Governance Council. He has also served more than 20 years in his community by sitting on the Board of Directors for his local SERTOMA (Service to Mankind) club.
