# Project | Establishing Leading Practices on Protecting Student Data

## AEM is the leading company in the United States on issues of privacy and security of student data.

Through the Privacy Technical Assistance Center (PTAC), we help state and local entities and a variety of education stakeholders understand best practices in data privacy, confidentiality, security, and managing student-level data.

Districts and postsecondary institutions continue to have great needs for education data security and privacy support. This is often because of limited resources. Meanwhile, new state laws are regularly passed, complicating the landscape of education data privacy and security and requiring ongoing training for organizations.

Our PTAC subject matter experts serve as partners with state education agencies and help to address potential weak points in their privacy and data security efforts. As a result of this work, more than 53,000 staff, administrators, faculty, students, and parents are trained on how to protect student and educator records.

PTAC has touched nearly every state and territory in the U.S. with either an onsite engagement or an interaction with our help desk. Our subject matter experts also support other AEM efforts related to data management by ensuring our projects lead with best practices in data privacy and security.
